It’s okay, you can say it: Moving can be a nightmare.Somehow, relocating from A to B manages to combine late nights packing and unpacking, heavy lifting, kid upheaval, unfamiliar locations, work stress and logistical headaches into one big, ugly ball of stress – then smacks it down into the middle of the work year. Yay!

Local moves are considered moves that are a short distance within the same state. The mileage, size or scale of the move is not a factor in determining if a move is local or not; whether your shipment crosses a state line is what will differentiate a local or intrastate move from a long distance move.

Long distance moves are different than local moves (moving a short distance within a metro area within the same state) and intrastate moves (longer distance moves that occur within the same state) because they involve moving goods across state lines. Additionally, a cross country move can also be referred to as a long distance move, an interstate move or a state-to-state move.

Moving and packing valuables is indeed a bit different from moving and packing ordinary household goods: that is why it is best left to the professionals. Expensive paintings, art, statues etc. are best transported in a custom-made wooden crate, in order to ensure continuity in temperature, humidity, and to offer added protection during transportation.
